I was recently asked about replacing a few windows in a historic home in the Roosevelt neighborhood in central Phoenix. The homeowners want to be as accurate as possible in replacing the windows and remodeling their home. We may end up looking for reclaimed windows from another historic home, building our own windows using the traditional sash, pulleys and weights, or considering new windows.
Pella windows are most often used when the historic look of an all wood window is important without the historic mechanics. Most of the other major window companies offer wood windows with metal cladding on the outside for protection from the elements.
The Kolbe window company is one company that does offer an all wood historic style window that does use the traditional sash and pulley system. They build both single and double hung varieties and offer true divided lights rather than external grids. The following video gives a great introduction to their historic style windows.

We are just starting this whole house remodel in north Scottsdale Arizona. Our homeowners just bought it and want to personalize it before they move their things into their new home.
The home is in great shape but lacks interior personality. Our work will include reconfiguring the fireplace, installing new flooring throughout, remodeling the master bathroom, installing all new solid core interior doors, and doing extensive faux finishing on most of the walls, ceilings and cabinetry.
Our goal of this remodel is to make the inside of the home have as much personality as it's beautiful neighborhood.
