Today we're posting about creating a whole new look in your kitchen, by adding a butcher-block island.

Typically butcher-block islands come as a stand-alone work station or cart with thickness in the block between 2 to 16 inches. Another option may include attaching a butcher-block table to a built-in island or putting a butcher-block surface onto the countertop of a built-in island.

Although maple is the most popular choice for butcher-blocks, other hard woods such as walnut, cherry and teak look just as beautiful and work just as well to create more contrast with light-colored cabinetry. It's a perfect place for the chef of the house to prep a meal and it also adds a furniture look to the kitchen.
